Ice Breaker

We are only 5 days into the new year and all Nitrome’s fans will be pleased to know that Mat and his team has just released a new physics-based puzzle game, Ice breaker!
Your goal here is to save all the frozen vikings by getting them back to their drakkar. To do so, simply click and drag across the ice to cut it and drop the vikings onto the ship.
Use the arrow keys to scroll the map or move your mouse pointer to the edges of the game window.
Ice Breaker offers 40 levels of increasing difficulty, and introduces new elements in later levels, like the “confusing blocks” that can be cut and then “shoot off if they can!”
Most of the levels are not very challenging, but all in all, Ice Breaker is a very entertaining game, so entertaining that Nitrome’s servers are obviously being hammered at the time of writing!

Now that Chrome, the browser from Google, is no longer in beta, you might want to download it and give it a try.
I’ve played around with Chrome for the past month, and it now takes its place as my favorite browser, mostly because it is way faster than Firefox 3.0, which is way faster than IE itself.
If you are looking for speed when you visit FreeGamesNews on Windows, Chrome is unbeatable (at the time of writing) and loading pages is a third faster than with Firefox on my laptop!

Black Fish - Five in A Row

Black Fish - Five in a Row is a Five in a Row game from FFish, similar to games like Five and Crystal Clear from Gamesheep.
The rules are identical in both games: match 5 or more blocks with the same color - here symbols - to remove them from the board.
Use your mouse to select a block and then click its destination.
The addition of a few special blocks helps keep the game entertaining in higher levels.A nice background music and a high score table would make this game better.

Color Infection 2

Color Infection 2 is the sequel to Color Infection, a physics-based Puzzle game created last September by Tapir, the author of Teleporter Twins.
The goal remains the same: infect all the yellow balls (turn them brown) by colliding them with the brown balls and keep all the green balls uninfected. To do so, simply click the pink obstacles in sequence to remove them.
Color Infection 2 features 25 news levels of increasing difficulty and a level editor is now available (check out the instructions first).
Not recommended for nervous or color blind people!

Ball Drop One

Designed by Ville Helin, Ball Drop One is an interesting mixture of Pachinko and Pinball. Simply drop your black ball and score as much as possible.
“Left mouse button drops the ball. Keep it pressed to change the size of the ball. [S] buys you slow motion time (costs 25 points). [T] thrusts the free balls towards the mouse pointer (costs 100 points).
[O] changes the size of the outline on the balls. [1], [2], [3] and [4] change the speed of the game (1x, 2x, 3x or 4x).
Also, if you click on a ball, and a black ball hits it next, you get bonus points, and the ball bounces more. The longer you keep the left mouse button down, the bigger the boost.”
If you read the instructions carefully, after a bit of practice, you will find Ball Drop One much better than it seems at first!

The Codex of Alchemical Engineering is a puzzle game from Zachtronic Industies that requires you to program robotic manipulator arms with sets of symbols that control their motion.
Designed “for engineers”, this game is not easy to understand at first (at least it wasn’t for me), so instead of trying how to explain the game works, here is a video tutorial on how to complete the two first levels.
The Codex of Alchemical Engineering is an interesting and challenging game, but as mentioned before, it was designed for engineers!
